Class Demonstration: Perspective Construction

We've received several requests over the years for an introductory class in this oft misunderstood subject, and we've decided that the time is right. This class will cover what you should have learned about perspective at art college, but probably didn't. The Cone of Vision, the Station Point, and the inherent limitations of perspective space will be discussed first, followed by strategies for constructing simple objects in one, two and three-point perspective – all demonstrated in detail. The class finishes with the mechanics of shadows and reflections in perspective.

All this paves the way for the next class in this series, Advanced Linear Perspective, slated to arrive in the fall. The advanced class will pick up where the basic one leaves off, incorporating the use of scales and Measure Points for calculating correct depths in perspective in more complex drawings.

Écorché In Progress

April 13, 2010

Mindy's been working on a new torso écorché lately. While it's not quite done yet, one of her students – Aron – thoughtfully offered to make a 360-degree stop-motion video of the sculpture at this stage. This is what he came up with. Thanks Aron!

"Drawing Board" is a window on the day-to-day activities in the studio. Every few days we'll post work by instructors, class demonstrations, photos of classes in session and anything else that strikes our fancy to document what Vitruvian is all about.

Occasionally, small works will be available for sale via online auction as part of an ongoing fund-raising effort to keep the cost for our classes as low as possible. Works for sale will be accompanied by a direct link to the auction should you wish to place a bid. Thanks in advance, and happy viewing!
