The key to an organized painting is an organized palette. This class is perfect for beginners who wish to learn about color, or for experienced artists who seek structure in their painting technique. In a unique approach to oil painting, students will learn to arrange their palettes according to value rather than hue. Using a nine step value scale students will organize paint into three color "strings" - red, yellow and neutral - each comprised of both tube colors and mixtures progressing in equal steps from dark to light. This arrangement on the palette makes it easier to develop a clear value structure in an image, which in turn leads to rounder form, deeper space and clearer, more vibrant color development in painting.
